The Bridge at Balham
The Bridge offers a unique opportunity for people to gain work experience and learn work related skills within a live business setting – a micro enterprise run by people with learning disabilities.
To embrace the experience and work towards employment we recommend that people sign up for a minimum of one day per week and a maximum of three days per week and stay with the project for a minimum of nine months and a maximum of 18 months.
Our aim is to prepare people so that they have a real chance of employment.
Learning takes place as Project Participants take active roles in running our conference and training centre. During quiet times there will be opportunities to practice and develop skills and to learn about finding a job.
We will focus on developing the following transferable work skills:
- Customer care
- Reception duties
- Cleaning
- Catering
- Admin and IT.
We will build an expectation that:
- People arrive on time
- People work as a part of a team
- People report their absences and plan their time off
- People work to a job description
- People perform to an agreed standard.
To ensure ongoing support we will work with people to prepare a C.V. We will assist people to look for employment or move them on to an employment advisor who has knowledge of working with people with learning disabilities.
The cost of attending the Bridge is £40 per day
