Price increases at the Bridge

In line with inflation we are increasing prices at The Bridge. The increase will take effect from 1st April 2012.
The large room has increased to £105 per day and the small room £90 per day.

The Bridge is in a good location and has 6 parking spaces for visitors. Even with the price increase it is still good value for money.

We are now selling our homemade biscuits which have been a hit with all that attend The Bridge for meetings.

Easy read health information launched

Pioneering easy read health information launched for people with a learning disability.

The Generate easyhealth Team have worked to develop easy read versions of clinical fact sheets about epilepsy, obesity and thyroid problems. In partnership with The Foundation of People with Learning Disabilities and PRODIGY we have worked to make important information accessible for people with a learning disability and anyone who struggles to read written information.

This new set of materials has been launched by PRODIGY this week, and is now available for health professionals and should aid their communication with patients.  The new leaflets will be uploaded to easyhealth website shortly.

Generate would like to thank The Foundation for People with a learning disability for commissioning this important work and PRODIGY for taking this step to make information more accessible and for ensuring that these leaflets were subjected to rigorous clinical quality checks before publication.

People with learning disabilities often have worse health than other people and this is something that needs to change.  Having health information in easy read format  will enable practitioners such as GPs and Nurses to help people to understand some common health problems more easily.  We hope that this will play an important part in improving the health and wellbeing of people with a learning disability.

Generate leads the way on employment

On 3rd March we took part in the Shape Youth Employment Conference at the Battersea Arts Centre.  We took an information stand there and I sat on the ‘Expert Panel’ convened for the morning to answer the questions of potential employers and other professionals. It was an early start in a chilly venue but it went well. In the afternoon Amy and I ran a workshop for young people called ‘Getting a Job’ – we were in a warmer space by then and had fun with the youngsters and their teachers exploring an important topic.

Shape has a substantial amount of funding from the Big Lottery Fund to run Employment Conferences aimed at young people with a learning disability across London over the next three years and we were paid for our professional involvement.

Since 3rd March Shape have contacted me and asked for the continued involvement of Generate in their three year programme and I have agreed to collaborate with them to support conferences later this year.  I will be having further discussions with them about this collaboration in April.  They are recognising our passion and commitment to employment for people with a learning disability and want to work with us which is great.
